Perhaps that’s an overstatement, but I don’t think so.
My infatuation with soap operas began with a most unique job back in the 1980s. I had a job in cable television providing tape delay programming to cities and towns in Alaska in the days before satellite transmission was available. More specifically, my soap love began with Erica Kane on All My Children, Susan Lucci, and I squirreled away old tapes of All My Children and One Life to Life and hauled them around for years.
In 2007 I created the HamiltonBernique channel on YouTube and uploaded my treasures. I soon thought of doing an app, and so for years I plugged away making an iOS application using Xamarin, later bought by Microsoft and incorporated into Visual Studio. I explored cross-platform tools, but quickly ascertained that native iOS controls worked best for what I was trying to do, with the hopes of making an Android app as well.
As the years go by, I realized the prudence of putting the data on the web for everyone, to cover as many YouTube soap videos possible, and for that goal I make my work public and deem my app as a proof of concept for now.
This effort is important. In addition to our favorite scenes, just think of the actors, directors, producers, and crew who were in the soaps either in front of the camera or behind and longed to see the video of their work once again. Now at least search they have a central hub to work with to find that memory.
